Reducing Campylobacter jejuni, Enterobacteriaceae and total aerobic bacteria on transport crates for chickens by irradiation with 265-nm ultraviolet light (UV–C LED)

چکیده
It is critical to maintain low levels of microbes in the whole food production chain. Due high speed slaughter, lack time, and structural characteristics crates, sufficient cleaning disinfection crates used for transporting chickens abattoirs a challenge. Inadequately cleaned transport broiler caused major outbreak campylobacteriosis Sweden 2016–2017, when contaminated introduced Campylobacter during thinning. This study evaluated antibacterial efficacy 265-nm ultraviolet (UV–C) LED light on artificially chicken crates. In laboratory study, crate with cecum contents was irradiated UV-C by continuous array treatment cabinet. The sampled 52 times cotton swabs before after 1 min (20.4 mJ/cm2) 3 (61.2 mJ/cm2). swab samples were analysed jejuni (C. jejuni), bacteria belonging family Enterobacteriaceae, total aerobic bacteria. After irradiation min, mean reduction C. log 2.0 ± 0.5 CFU/mL observed, while 3.1 1.0 CFU/mL. Enterobacteriaceae 1.5 0.3 1.8 0.8 min. 1.4 0.4 1.6 Significant reductions bacterial load observed all extending time from significantly increased jejuni. However, implementation commercial abattoirs, unit would need be extended and/or washing procedure treatment, reduce amount organic matter improved.

Bactericidal effects of 310 nm ultraviolet light-emitting diode irradiation on oral bacteria
BACKGROUND Ultraviolet (UV) light is used for phototherapy in dermatology, and UVB light (around 310 nm) is effective for treatment of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. In addition, it is known that UVC light (around 265 nm) has a bactericidal effect, but little is known about the bactericidal effect of UVB light. In this study, we examined the bactericidal effects of UVB-light emitting diode (L...
متن کاملUse of ultraviolet irradiation to reduce Campylobacter jejuni on broiler meat.
The effects of UV irradiation at a wavelength of 254 nm on the survival of Campylobacter jejuni on the surfaces of broiler meat, skin, and carcasses were studied. On broiler carcasses, the effects of UV were also studied in combination with activated oxygen. The surfaces were inoculated with varying counts of C. jejuni and treated with UV irradiation using doses ranging between 9.4 and 32.9 mW/...
متن کاملInactivation of Campylobacter jejuni by exposure to high-intensity 405-nm visible light.
Although considerable research has been carried out on a range of environmental factors that impact on the survival of Campylobacter jejuni, there is limited information on the effects of violet/blue light on this pathogen. This investigation was carried out to determine the effects of high-intensity 405-nm light on C. jejuni and to compare this with the effects on two other important Gram-nega...
متن کاملBiofilm formation by Campylobacter jejuni is increased under aerobic conditions.
The microaerophilic human pathogen Campylobacter jejuni is the leading cause of food-borne bacterial gastroenteritis in the developed world. During transmission through the food chain and the environment, the organism must survive stressful environmental conditions, particularly high oxygen levels. Biofilm formation has been suggested to play a role in the environmental survival of this organis...
متن کاملSensitivity of oral bacteria to 254 nm ultraviolet light.
AIM To explore the sensitivity of bacteria commonly found in root canals to 254 nm ultraviolet (UV) light, either as individual cells or as participants of a bacterial multilayer. METHODOLOGY The sensitivity of oral bacteria, as individual cells, to UV light was tested by subjecting plates streaked with bacteria to 254 nm UV, at a fluence of 1-20 mJ cm(-2). An experimental model was designed ...
